Quiksilver Pro France Called Off for the Day Due to Unruly Swell
Despite waiting for the call throughout the morning, Quiksilver Pro France fans were treated to a unique experience of watching the Rugby World Cup on the beach at La Graviere.
LA GRAVIERE, Hossegor/France (Saturday, October 8, 2011) – Shifting eight-to-ten foot (2.5 – 3 metre) swell has forced event organizers to call a lay day for the Quiksilver Pro France, Stop No. 8 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title season, with the surf failing to organize itself into the realm of contestable.
“We have solid surf on offer today and it’s stayed clean throughout the morning but it’s very random and that increases the ‘luck’ factor out there for our competitors,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “We want the surfing to determine the winners, not luck, so we’ve called the event off for the day. Tomorrow looks to be more manageable and we’ll be back in the morning to assess conditions.”
Event organizers will reconvene at 8am tomorrow morning to assess conditions for a possible 8:30am start.
When competition recommences, up first will be Raoni Monteiro (BRA), 29, and Miguel Pupo (BRA), 19, in Heat 9 of Round 2.
