World’s Best Junior Surfers Prepare For Oakley World Pro Junior Bali
KERAMAS, Bali/Indonesia (Sunday, 2 October, 2011) – October 3rd marks the beginning of the Oakley World Pro Junior Bali, the first of three events that will decide the 2011 ASP World Junior Champions. Last year’s event saw performance levels go through the roof with hi-fi manoeuvres going down at Canggu and barrel shootouts at Keramas.
Jack Freestone (Gold Coast, QLD/AUS) won the 2010 Oakley World Pro Junior after taking down Dale Staples (ZAF) in an epic final at Keramas. Freestone then went on to win the 2010 ASP World Junior Title, showing just how vital this event is towards an ASP World Junior Title campaign.
“Last year’s event win was pretty special,” Freestone said. “The waves were pumping and my mum was there on the beach, it’s hard to explain how it felt.”
Freestone may be the reigning event Champion and World Junior Champion, but he isn’t feeling any pressure or the wight of expectations.
“I’m not nervous or anything,” Freestone said. “I’m just excited to surf pumping waves like we had last year again. Of course I’d love to win again, but it’s never a good thing to put pressure on yourself going into a competition. Everyone is going to be hard to beat, everyone is hungry and that’s why last year’s win was so special because you’re up against all the best guys in the best waves.”
The Oakley World Pro Junior Bali will run from October 3 – 14. Stay tuned to
