Billabong Pro Tahiti Round 2 ON in Pumping Teahupo’o, Round 3 on Standby

Matt Wilkinson (AUS), 22, will test his mettle against the infamous slab of Teahupo’o today at the Billabong Pro Tahiti. Wilkinson faces Alejo Muniz (BRA), 21, in Round 2 of competition today.

TEAHUPO’O, Taiarapu/French Polynesia (Friday, August 26, 2011) – Competition at the Billabong Pro Tahiti presented by Air Tahiti Nui will recommence this morning with Round 2 at 7:30am, Round 3 has been placed on standby.

Event No. 5 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title season, the Billabong Pro Tahiti will jump back into competition this morning in solid six-to-eight foot plus (2 – 2.5 metre plus) waves at Teahupo’o.

“The winds have become much more favorable and the swell has properly filled in today so we’ll be recommencing competition at 7am,” Pritamo Ahrendt, ASP International Head Judge, said. “We’ll be taking advantage of the swell and conditions on offer today so we’ll look to complete Round 2, and we’ve put Round 3 on standby for a start this afternoon. Good luck to all our competitors today.”

Up first this morning will be Jeremy Flores (FRA), 23, and Heiarii Williams (PYF), 23, in the opening heat of Round 2.

The Billabong Pro Tahiti presented by Air Tahiti Nui will be webcast LIVE via http://www.billabongpro.com

Surfline, official forecasters for the Billabong Pro Tahiti, are calling for strong SSW swell continuing today as conditions clean up with wind shifting more ESE/E through the day. An even larger and very solid, long period SSW swell shows Saturday, fading Sunday. Another solid SSW swell could move in on Monday, before easing Tuesday. Moderate E trades prevail Saturday before backing down by the end of the weekend, with very light wind possible early next week.
