Lay Day Called for Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay, Tracking Swell Over Next Few Days

JEFFREYS BAY, South Africa (Tuesday, July 19, 2011) ? An overnight drop in swell has prompted event organizers to call a lay day for the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay in hopes of capitalizing on improved conditions projected over the next several days.

Event No. 4 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title season, the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay has completed Round 1 and the opening six heats of Round 2, selecting the very best conditions on offer for the world?s best to sink their teeth into.

?Conditions this morning a looking less than inviting with only small inconsistent surf tracking through the lineup,? Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. ?The energy we?ve been monitoring for a few days now is looking a bit better on the charts and we?ll be seeing a recommencement here in the next few days.?

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 7am to assess conditions for a possible 7:30am start.

When competition resumes, up first will be Damien Hobgood (USA), 32, up against compatriot Taylor Knox (USA), 40, in Heat 7 of Round 2.
