Top Seeds Triumph at Chill Pro Junior

TRIGG BEACH, Perth WA/Australia (Saturday, May 28, 2011) - A surprise increase in swell welcomed the competitors to the Chill Pro Junior presented by the City of Stirling at Trigg Point, Perth for day two of competition.

Two foot (1 metre) running waves reeled up the beach setting the stage for a huge day of competition. Australasia’s top seeded juniors hit the water and impressed onlookers in the fickle conditions with Newcastle’s Ryan Callinan leading the charge with his aerial antics.

“It is pretty small again today but conditions are definitely better than yesterday,” Callinan said. “The waves are really fun when they come through. I got two 7′s (out of a possible 10), but whoever gets the set waves usually wins the heat. I’m really hoping to win this event, I’m feeling good and I think it’s my time.”

Garrett Parkes (NSW) from Byron Bay, notched a win earlier this year at an ASP Pro Junior in Tahiti and is still in red hot form.

“The top are really showing why they’re at the top and are blowing up.” Parkes said. “It’s going to be really tough to win, but now that I’ve got a taste, I’m hungry. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens tomorrow.”

Matt Banting from Port Macquarie (NSW) and Dean Bowen (NSW) from the NSW’s South Coast were other top seeds standouts in today’s competition. Bowen and Banting will be huge threats in the final day of competition tomorrow, the pair both have full bag of tricks.

By the end of today’s competition there will be only 16 competitors left in contention for the 2011 Chill Pro Junior title.
