Machado and Meneguel Take Wins at Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Junior

ATALAIA, Itajai, Santa Catarina / Brazil (April, Saturday, 02, 2011) – Local boy Gustavo Machado (Itajai, Santa Catarina), 18, has won the ASP South America 3-Star Quiksilver Pro Junior. The event finished tonight at the lefts of Molhes do Atalaia. With waves ranging from two-to-four foot (1 meter), the finalists were greeted with the chance to compete in the night for the first time ever in an ASP contest in Brazil.

In a hard fought final, Gustavo Machado won over young talent Deivid Silva (Sao Paulo), 15, who scored an 6.67 pts in the dying seconds of the heat, just 0.04 tenths shy of he what was in need of to change the result.

“I can barely speak, I’m too stoked by winning this contest in front of all my friends at my home break. Now all I want is to stay focused in maintaining this momentum in the next three contests to assure one place into the South American team in order to compete on the World Junior Tour”, said a trilled Gustavo Machado.

Juliana Meneguel, 16, also made history by winning the ASP South America 2-Star Roxy Pro Junior. Juliana jumped out to an early lead, holding her position throughout the entire final to earn the victory over Gabriela Leite, 18.

“First I have to thank God and all the people who supported me, my family and friends, it’s like a dream to win this contest. I knew it wouldn’t be easy to win over Gabriela (Leite), she is such good surfer, but I knew I was surfing strong and I could win”, said Juliana Meneguel.

For this win Gustavo Machado takes US$ 3,000 prize money and 750 pts for the ASP South America Pro Junior Series and Juliana Meneguel gets US$ 1,200 and 500 pts for the ASP South America Women´s Pro Junior Series 2011.

After the finals took place the DC Shoes Expression Session, and the winner was Fabio Gouveia’s son Ian Gouveia who threw an incredible Fakie Air, taking home the US$ 1,000 prize money.
