Yan Daberkow Steals the Show on the Opening Day of ASP 3-Star Quiksilver Pro Junior in Brazil

Yan Daberkow (BRA), 16, stealing the show on the opening day of the ASP 3-Star Quiksilver Pro Junior.

ATALAIA, Itajai, Santa Catarina / Brazil (April, Friday, 01, 2011) – The ASP South America 2011 Quiksilver Pro Junior event started today with the infamous waves of Molhes do Atalaia firing clean two-to-four foot (1 metre) lefthanders throughout the whole day.

The best Pro Junior surfers from South America played all kinds of tricks for the joy of the public who attended this first day of competition. This is the first out of four ASP South America Pro Junior events which will qualify four surfers to compete on the ASP World Junior Tour.

“We are delighted to have this event here at Itajai, we had a great reception, especially by the Atalaia locals, and the best thing is that we have great waves”, said Piu Pereira from Marketing Quiksilver

Young Brazilian surfer Yan Daberkow (Sao Francisco do Sul, SC), 16, put on an absolutely amazing performance at Molhes do Atalaia to set the today’s highlight by scoring an impressive two wave total of 18.00 pts (out of 20.00 pts).

“The heat was amazing, I’m stoked and feeling very confident for the next round, I found some really good waves in this heat. I have been training a lot here, and all the local boys have been very nice to me”, said Yan, thrilled with his performance.

Another highlight of today was Sao Paulo’s Thiago Guimaraes who scored an 8.43 pts, wining his heat with a two wave total of 14.60 pts over second place Luel Felipe (13.93 pts) with Wesley Ayres finishing in third and Mariano Arreyes in fourth.

Also Krystian Kymerson won a heavy heat, this time with no KK flights (his trademark air move). The progressive goofy footer ripped a long lefthander connecting a series of strong turns to score an 8.33 pts to win Heat 3 of the Round of 64.

This Friday will see the junior surfers battling for the DC Shoes Expression Session to start at 7:00 pm, yes at night, as the Atalaia jetties are illuminated at night allowing the surfers to surf at dark.

Tomorrow the competition restarts at 7:30 am at Molhes do Atalaia.
