Built Fanning Tough – Mick Fanning Inks Deal with Ford

Fanning is tough, and now, so is Ford.

COOLANGATTA, Queensland/Australia (Friday, March 25, 2011) – Dual ASP World Champion, Mick Fanning (AUS), 29, has signed a three-year contract as Ford’s latest ambassador and face of the all-new-Ranger, set to come to market in August 2011.

The announcement comes as Ford this year increases its involvement in the Rip Curl Pro – Fanning’s brand partner – as master sponsor of the men’s event. Plus, continued support of the women’s event, with Stephanie Gilmore and the Ford Fiesta at the helm.

“Ford is very proud to be extending our association with Rip Curl and their star, Mick Fanning, into the seasons ahead. Through some tough challenges, Mick has held his own and continues to win titles so we are excited to see what’s in store for 2011.” said Marketing, Sales & Service VP for Ford Australia, Beth Donovan.

“The Ranger was designed and launched in Australia for the world, and like Mick, has some real grunt and is a real hard worker by everyone’s standards. We are delighted to have Mick as a part of the team when we launch the Ranger into the Australian market later this year” Donovan said.

Originally hailing from Sydney’s Western Suburbs and now residing on the Gold Coast, Fanning developed his skill on some of the world’s best breaks and quickly established himself as one of the next generations strongest surf stars. As a youngster starting out, Fanning won the 2001 Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach as a wildcard, which quickly set him apart from other juniors and his continued determination to be the best, made him the perfect candidate to join the Ford stable.

“I am lucky enough to do what I love every day, coming up against the best surfers in the some of the meanest waves, travelling the circuit and seeing the world” he said. “With cars like the Ranger, developed in Australia and taken to the world, Ford is making the journey that bit more exciting. I am really proud to be associated with such a great brand.”
