In Enever’s Words by ESPN

LOS ANGELES, California/USA (Friday, December 10, 2010) – Laura Enver (AUS), 19, has just wrapped up a banner year. The young Aussie hailing from North Narrabeen snagged the 2010 ASP World Junior Title before charging her way to the top of the ASP Women’s World Rankings, finishing second behind Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), 19, to secure her position as a rookie on next year’s ASP Top 17. ESPN caught up with the fiery natural-footer to reflect on her amazing season and her expectations for next year. This… is their story…

It’s that time of year again, a whole new class of surfers are about to graduate to the ASP World Tour. On the men’s side Julian Wilson will catch most of the glare of the spotlight in the coming months, and on the women’s side there’s 19-year-old Laura Enever from North Narrabeen, Australia. Young, talented and enthusiastic, we caught up with Enever in Hawaii shortly after she found out she was moving on to the big time.

This has been a huge year for you, winning a World Pro Junior title and making the world tour in the same year. Was this all in the master plan?

Winning the ASP World Pro Junior title in January was the most amazing way for me to start off 2010. It was a huge confidence boost to start the year, but I didn’t really have a master plan. My plan was to just go with the flow, compete in more Pro Junior events, plus WQS events, and just surf great waves and have a good time. I didn’t put any pressure on myself to qualify, and I think that’s why I did. I just enjoyed the journey, surfed every contest heat by heat, and had a really good time along the way.
