America’s Top Juniors Hit New York for ASP Grade-4 Nike 6.0 Unsound Pro Junior

LONG BEACH, New York/USA (Wednesday, September 1, 2010) – The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Grade-4 Nike 6.0 Unsound Pro Junior is set to hit Long Beach, New York to mark the first event of the new ASP North America Pro Junior Season and the event’s ASP Grade-4 Status will play a crucial role towards surfers’ overall rating.

Surfers competing on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series are out to finish atop their regional ratings to qualify for the prestigious ASP World Junior Tour and the Nike 6.0 Unsound Pro Junior’s ASP Grade-4 points will play a vital role towards their overall rating.

Evan Geiselman (New Smyrna Beach, FL), 17, reigning ASP North America Pro Junior Series Champion, has been the form surfer throughout the year on the regional series and the Floridian goofy-footer is hoping he can continue to stay consistent at the upcoming event in New York.

“It’s great being on top of the ratings entering this event,” Geiselman said. “I’m hoping I can get another result here at the Nike contest to start off the season strong.”

Geiselman has been currently enjoying the flurry of hurricane swells rattling the entire East Coast and is hoping to enjoy good conditions on his maiden voyage to New York.

“I’ve never been to New York before,” Geiselman said. “We’ve had hurricane swell here on the East Coast and I’ve been traveling from Maine to North Carolina, but haven’t been to New York yet, I’m looking forward to it.”

Geiselman, who will be competing on this year’s ASP World Junior Tour, knows that the critical points on offer at the ASP Grade-4 event will not only play a vital role in his position on this year’s regional ratings, but will also help the young East Coaster continue to sharpen his competitive skills prior to the start of this year’s ASP World Junior Tour.

“This is the biggest event of the new season since it’s a Grade-4,” Geiselman said. “It’s also an excellent way to help prepare for Bali and to keep the contest vibe going. I can’t wait.”

Nat Young (Santa Cruz, CA), 18, who was the 2009 ASP North America Pro Junior Series Champion, will also be another top seed competing in New York for the first time, and is looking forward to competing in the new location with a waiting period to capitalize on ideal conditions.

“I have actually never surfed in New York and never really been there, just on a layover,” Young said. “I’ve heard it gets really good though so I’m excited that Nike is having a contest there. Also, having a waiting period is amazing. I’m really excited!”

Young, who qualified for the ASP World Junior Tour via the ASP World Ranking, is still hungry to post a good result at the Nike 6.0 Unsound Pro Junior despite remaining focused on his international standing and is approaching the upcoming ASP Pro Junior contest in the same manner as an international event.

“I’m not trying to qualify for worlds (the World Junior Tour) off of the junior (ASP North America Pro Junior Series) so that takes off some pressure,” Young said. “I would really like to do well though, no matter what contest it is. I don’t really approach it any differently. I stick to the same routine.”

Surfline, official surf forecasters for the ASP Grade-4 Nike 6.0 Unsound Pro Junior are currently monitoring a series of tropical storms currently building in the Atlantic which have the potential to bring swell to New York and will have a full swell prediction in the coming days.

The Nike 6.0 Unsound Pro Junior holds a waiting period from September 8 through 12, 2010 and will be webcast LIVE via www.nike6unsoundjrpro.com
