O’Neill Women’s World Cup of Surfing is LIVE
Sunset Beach, Oahu/Hawaii (Wednesday, November 24, 2010) – The O’Neill Women’s World Cup of Surfing, the final stop on the 2010 ASP Women’s World Tour, has kicked off this afternoon in firing six-to-eight foot (2 metre) surf at Sunset Beach and will complete Rounds 1 and 2 by day’s end.
With reigning four-time ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 22, having solidified the 2010 ASP World Title in Puerto Rico, the focus on the O’Neill Women’s World Cup will turn to the race for the prestigious Vans Triple Crown title and the battle for requalification for next year’s ASP Dream Tour.
“We’ve got a peaking swell that should provide exciting conditions for the women this afternoon,” Richie Porta, ASP International Head Judge said. “We’d like to capitalize on this swell and finish both Rounds 1 and 2 today.”
Starting off O’Neill Women’s World Cup competition will be former ASP Women’s World Champion Sofia Mulanovich (PER), 26, local standout Coco Ho (HAW), 19, Nikita Robb (ZAF), 21, and Sage Erickson (USA), 19, in Heat 1 of Round 1.
