Is Parko Back? ASL Answers the Question

Joel Parkinson...he's baaaaaacccckkk...

BURLEIGH HEADS, Queensland/Australia (Saturday, October 9, 2010) - Joel Parkinson (AUS), 29, 2009 ASP World Runner-Up, has been out of commission the past four events. As you’ll recall, the week before the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay, Parkinson suffered a horrific fin chop to his back (right) foot, relegating him to the couch for the past three months. The stylish natural-footer missed Jeffreys Bay, Tahiti, Trestles and France, and he will miss Portugal and Puerto Rico. However, today was a turning point. Today saw Parko back in the water and on a surfboard for the first time since the injury. Australia’s Surfing Life (ASL) was there is get the photos and the angle. This…is their story…

Snapper is cross-shore, a little lumpy.  Joel Parkinson couldn’t care less.

“It’s just so good to be surfing again. Don’t say I was ripping or anything” jokes an uber chirpy Joel Parkinson, post-surf from his first waves since the fin chop that stopped a nation.

It’s been almost 4 months to the day since he sashimied his heel at pumping Snapper. At the time it was described by surfing buddy for the day, Andy Irons, as the worst fin chop he’d ever seen. After the initial few weeks of bed rest and couching it, Parko’s been keeping himself busy; training hard, body-bashing in the shories and has even been seen taking to a lid, just to be back in Mother Ocean.

It’s given him time to think. So far this year, the 2009 WT runner up has had to miss four events on the tour and will not be surfing in Portugal or Puerto Rico. Luckily for the surfing population, maybe not so for the blokes he’ll be surfing against, his next stop is Hawaii. “I’ve got about four…”
