Kelly Slater Wins Volcom Fiji Pro, Takes Rankings Lead
Kelly Slater, winning his 53rd ASP WCT event and second consecutive Volcom Fiji Pro title.
CLOUDBREAK, Tavarua/Fiji (Wednesday, June 12, 2013) - Kelly Slater (USA), 41, has won the Volcom Fiji Pro for the second consecutive year, defeating Mick Fanning (AUS), 31, in solid six-to-eight foot (2 metre) waves at Cloudbreak.
Stop No. 4 of 10 on the ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), the Volcom Fiji Pro saw several days of world-class surf at both Restaurants and Cloudbreak and saw a series of mixed results from the ASP Top 34 that shook up the current rankings in the race for the ASP World Title.
Slater built momentum throughout the Volcom Fiji Pro, peaking on the final day of competition. Slater’s road to victory included a perfect 20-point heat against Sebastian Zeitz (HAW), 25, in the Quarterfinals, a victory over John John Florence (HAW), 20, in the Semifinals, culminating with a win over Y in the Volcom Fiji Pro title.
Slater’s win vaults him to No. 1 on the rankings, putting him in contention for a historic 12th ASP World Title.
