Lay-Day Called At The Billabong World Junior Championships Gold Coast

Arashi Kato (JPN), one of yesterday's standout performers will take on Thomas Woods (AUS) when competition resumes. PIC: ASP/Kirstin BURLEIGH HEADS, Queensland/Australia (Wednesday, 25 January, 2012) – Contest officials have called a lay-day at the Billabong World Junior Championships today. The Gold Coast is being pounded by heavy rain and strong winds today and the surf is not good enough for competition.

“We’ve called the competition off for the day,” Contest Director Luke Egan said. “There’s just not enough opportunity out there for the surfers to get scores, plus we have some better conditions forecasted for the next few days.”

A call will be made at 7:30am tomorrow for a possible 8am start. The Billabong World Junior Championships Gold Coast will be webcast live via www.billabongpro.com
