Inaugural ASP 3-Star Yop Reunion Surf Pro Junior Kicks Off Saturday
TROIS BASSINS, Reunion Island (Friday, April 8, 2011) –The inaugural ASP 3-Star Yop Reunion Surf Pro Junior is set to kick-off in exciting wave conditions tomorrow Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the fun and consistent main venue of Trois Bassins on France’s Reunion Island.
Launching the 2011 ASP European Junior Series with one of the year’s biggest events points and prizemoney wise, the Yop Reunion Surf Pro Junior will see Round 1 of competition hit the water after the 10 AM check-in decides about the day’s schedule.
“We have decided of a 10 AM check-in for all competitors and aim at getting things underway shortly after that,” event promoter and contest director Christophe Mulquin said. “It’s looking promising and solid in terms of waves and we hope the event kicks-off in spectacular fashion on this first weekend.”
With a 64-man field in the starting blocks to get their 2011 ASP European Junior campaign underway, and some solid six-foot waves expected to break on the reef of Trois-Bassins in the next couple of days, the Yop Reunion Surf Pro Junior will get into high-level action from Day 1 of competition.
Benefiting from a 9-day waiting period with only five days needed to complete both men and women divisions, officials are looking forward to using most of the better conditions on offer, Trois-Bassins offering both a right and left-hand peak as well as a variety of sections from the outside up to the shore of the swell remains in the six to eight foot range.
“All indicators are showing a good start to this first event of the year and we are expecting some serious battles out at the line-up of Trois Bassins,” ASP Europe Junior Series head judge Aitor Aguirremota said. “Being a 3-Star rated event, the Yop Reunion Surf Pro Junior will be of much impact on this year’s race to the European title.”
When competition starts, first out will be event number one seed Pierre-Valentin Laborde (Hossegor, FRA) up against rising athlete Nelson Cloarec (Hossegor, FRA) and Reunion Island native Jorgan Couzinet (REU).
