BONDI BEACH, New South Wales/Australia (Saturday, March 12, 2011) - Surf was up when a host of Aussie TV and sporting celebrities competed with some of the world’s best surfers in the Celebrity Challenge at Bondi today, the second day of the Boost Mobile SurfSho, presented by BlackBerry.

Local celebrities hitting the waves for the Boost Mobile Celebrity challenge included Home & Away stars David Jones-Roberts and Luke Mitchell; boxer Danny Green and water skiing champion and pro-boxer Lauryn Eagle. Celebs were teamed up with a stellar list of international surfing talent, including Taj Burrow and world number two Jordy Smith, to compete for a $5,000 donation to charity.

Along with hundreds of spectators, Roosters player Braith Anasta watched from the VIP deck, beached by his eye injury from last night’s NRL game.

Highlights from the celebrity challenge included a nine point ride for Josh Kerr and an impressive air reverse landed by Beau Walker,  presenter of Channel Nine’s new quiz show, Kitchen Whiz. Meanwhile, Home & Away stars David Jones-Roberts and Luke Mitchell signed autographs and posed for photos with excited fans before cruising through the waves.

Beau’s impressive maneuver helped his team to victory with Jordy Smith, Ashley Cheadle and Kirby Wright also impressing the judges with their surfing style. The four have chosen to donate their $5,000 to Coastcare, whose volunteers help keep Australia’s beaches clean by identifying environmental problems and working together to achieve practical solutions.

Beau Walker, commented on the team’s win, “It was fun competing for a good cause, having a few laughs and catching some great waves in Bondi. We weren’t expecting to win, but the $5K for Coastcare is a bonus! It’s also great catching up with the pro-surfers who I used to compete with.”

Tomorrow sees serious action as current Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour surfers Taj Burrow,  Jordy Smith, Josh Kerr and Owen Wright join many of the world’s best aerialists competing for a winners cheque of $25 000 for the biggest successful aerial with huge crowds expected to line the arena at the south end of Bondi!
