Lay Day for Billabong ASP World Junior Championships

NORTH NARRABEEN, New South Wales/Australia (Thursday, January 13, 2011) – Competition has been called off for the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships Fueled by Monster Energy with a promising swell looming on the horizon which is expected to deliver firing surf for the crowning of the 2010 ASP World Junior Champion.

Yesterday’s action saw the men’s Billabong ASP World Junior Championships Quarterfinalists decided with powerful Frenchman Marc Lacomare (FRA), 20, earning the event’s highest single-wave score while current ASP World Junior Tour rankings leader Jack Freestone (AUS), 18, was eliminated from competition, potentially opening the gates for his fellow competitors to steal the 2010 ASP World Junior Title from under his grasp.

Competitors still in contention for the 2010 ASP World Junior Title include current rankings leader, Freestone, current ASP World Junior No. 2 Dale Staples (ZAF), 20, who needs to advance into the Semifinals to overtake Freestone, Caio Ibelli (BRA), 16, Mitch Crews (AUS), 20, Nat Young (USA), 19, and Kiron Jabour (HAW), 20.
