Lay Day for ASP 6-Star O’Neill Cold Water Classic Canada

TOFINO, British Columbia/ Canada (Saturday, October 9, 2010) – Six-to-eight foot (2 metre) surf and stormy conditions have forced event organizers to call competition for the ASP 6-Star O’Neill Cold Water Classic Canada off for today.

The O’Neill Cold Water Classic Canada, the nation’s only ASP rated event, will host several of the globe’s finest surfing talent who are out to garner the valuable points towards their ASP World Ranking and a spot amongst the elite ASP Dream Tour.

“We’ve got messy surf out there this morning and and the biggest tides of the year right now, so we’re calling competition off for the day,” Matt Wilson, O’Neill Cold Water Classic Canada Contest Director said. “With plenty of time remaining in the waiting period we’d rather wait for improved conditions to start the event.”

Event officials will reconvene at 7am tomorrow local time to make the official call for a possible 9am start.

The ASP 6-Star O’Neill Cold Water Classic Canada will host top seeds including former 2010 ASP World Tour competitors Kekoa Bacalso (Mililani, HI), 25, Tanner Gudauskas (San Clemente, CA), 22, Nathan Yeomans (San Clemente, CA), 29, and Ben Dunn (Maclean, AUS), 24.

The O’Neill Cold Water Classic holds a waiting period from October 9 through 15, 2010 and will be webcast LIVE via http://www.oneill.com/cwc/canada
