HALEIWA, Oahu/Hawaii – (Friday, November 8, 2013) - Surfline.com, official forecaster for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, is focused on the development of a major Northerly swell that could see event No. 1 – the REEF Hawaiian Pro – get underway early next week. The $250,000 REEF Hawaiian Pro will see John John Florence (HI), Dane Reynolds (USA), Mick Fanning (AUS) and more than 100 of the world’s best return to the waves on Oahu’s North Shore for this celebrated ASP-rated, 3-event series.

“We are tracking a potential strong North swell for the early stages of the Reef Hawaiian Pro,” said Surfline.com’s forecast manager Kevin Wallace. “At this point the swell looks largest on Thursday the 14th, although we will keep an eye out for a rapid building trend Wednesday. We will have more refined details as we see the storm develop in the next couple of days, so stay tuned.”

“While a northerly swell isn’t the most optimal for Haleiwa, the sheer size of this one means we will have plenty of waves on hand to get rolling,” said REEF Hawaiian Pro contest director Marty Thomas. “We’re probably looking at 8-10 feet, maybe bigger.”

Between now and next week, Vans presents the HIC Pro final day of 4-star action at Sunset Beach. The final day of competition is expected to take place tomorrow, with a champion to be crowned at 4pm. The final results of the HIC Pro will decide which local surfers from Hawaii will be granted a start in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
