Second Lay Day Called at ASP WLT Bear Pro presented by Jeep

LEVANTO, Italy (Friday, November 11, 2011) – The inaugural ASP World Longboard Tour (WLT) Bear Pro presented by Jeep held its second consecutive lay day due to flat conditions at the main event site at Levanto. A high pressure system over the Mediterranean Sea is creating stable warm weather with light offshore winds and thus no swell.

Bear Pro presented by Jeep Contest Director Julien ‘Vico’ Hamel, explains the latest situation from the recent forecasts.

“Right now we have a push on the map. The bad weather is also coming from Thursday to Sunday next week which is a good thing because it will bring the swell. So we should be able to get something done mid next week but for sure the next two days are going to be similar to today.”

2010 ASP World Longboard Champion and current rankings leader Duane De Soto (HAW) was one of the many visiting longboarders who managed to experience the quality waves Levanto can deliver during the pre-event swell which hit the area.

“The day before yesterday we had some good waves and I broke one of my boards. I was just trying to get used to it and it was a little too big in the morning for my light weight board. I thought it was going to be really small so I bought some light weight boards and unfortunately there was swell that I didn’t even think could be possible over here. It actually put a smile on my face to start the week having some waves. Even if it has gone flat like this we got to surf here.”

De Soto who is out to defend his ASP World title is feeling relaxed about his current situation at the top of the 2011 rankings and is looking forward to competing at the ASP WLT Bear Pro presented by Jeep when competition eventually gets underway.

“The added pressure only comes because the waves are small. I don’t really know if that is my best game competing in smaller waves. I stoked to come into it after winning the title and then going on to win in Sri Lanka was really cool for me. Back-to back, I am just stoked. I mean there is a little bit of extra pressure for sure but I’m happy to be in the position I am in.”
