Quarterfinals Decided at ASP 4-Star Copa Quiksilver El Salvador, Champion Crowned Tomorrow

PUNTA ROCA, La Libertad / El Salvador (Saturday, July 9,2011) ? After a day of inconsistent swell the ASP 4-Star Copa Quiksilver El Salvador returned to Punta Roca to finish the round of 16 in excellent conditions of 3-5ft waves at La Libertad, El Salvador.

The Copa Quiksilver El Salvador is the second event on the Latin American portion of the North American regional tour, offering up valuable points for competitors looking to establish themselves as top seeds on the ASP World Rankings.

Eziekel Lau (Honolulu, HI) 17, who found his rhythm early, has been a standout throughout the entirety of the Copa Quiksilver El Salvador, notching a 14.40 out of 20 heat total in the round of 16 to defeated top rated surfers such as, Dillon Perillo (USA) and Brad Ettinger (USA).

?I was stoked to get the early score and then I had the majority of the heat to back it up, and I was stoked that I got two good ones.? Lau said, ?It?s all about getting a rhythm out there.  The waves are so good and you can just go crazy on them.?

Lau, 17, expressed his excitement about making it into the quarterfinals, in which he will compete in the first heat of the day against Chilean surfer, Guillermo Satt (CHL).

?I haven?t surfed a lot of man-on-man, but I?m stoked to get out there.? Lau said, ?The waves are firing and there?s only going to be two of us out, using priority, and it?s going to come down to surfing. Can?t wait for tomorrow.?

Jeremy Johnston (New Smyrna Beach, FL), 24, also expressed his excitement for the upcoming quarterfinal heats.

?I do have some man-on-man heat experience from some of the events that run on the East Coast, but I?ve never been in one in an ASP event.? Johnston said. ?Out here it?s going to be amazing. We?re just going to be boxing, going wave for wave and I can wait for it. I love competing and I can?t wait for tomorrow.?

Another standout performer was young 21 ?year old Aussie, Mitch Crews (AUS) 21, who defeated veteran surfer, Shane Beschen (HAW) 39, and earn himself a spot in the quarterfinals.

?I got one at the start, and it was like a 4.5, and then I turned around and (Shane) Beschen and (Manuel) Selman were on nuggets.? Said Crews. ?I just sat out the back for a good one and got my 7.5 and then was able to back it up and hold onto the lead. ?

The Copa Quiksilver El Salvador will recommence tomorrow at 7 am local time to crown a champion by day?s end. Watch the webcast LIVE via www.quiksilver.com/elsalvador
