SYDNEY, New South Wales/Australia (Thursday, March 24, 2011) – Kelly Slater (USA), 39, reigning 10-time ASP World Champion and leader in the hunt for the 2011 ASP World Title, and Taj Burrow (AUS), 32, prodigal son of the progressive surf movement and current ASP World No. 2, may not seem like likely bedfellows. However, reports to the contrary have been pouring in over the past week. Slater allegedly was towed into a few Cape Solander bombs by Mr. Burrow, and the two reportedly enjoyed a quiet dinner with one another before pulling into solid Tamarama (see photo) in the morning. After surfing Straddie all day on Tuesday, Kelly Slater received a call from Koby Abberton about Cape Solander on Wednesday. Chasing the swell down from Queensland, he flew to Sydney and drove straight from the airport to the line-up at Ours. During the session he towed, he paddled and, as everyone in the lineup was thrilled to witness, even took a few beatings. Riding a 5’9″ semi-round-nosed raft, the biggest crowd ever seen at the break lined the cliff to watch the champ in action.
