The World This Week: Monday, February 21, 2011
Joel Parkinson (AUS), 29, will begin his ASP World Title campaign at this week's Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast.
HUNTINGTON BEACH, California (Monday, February 21, 2011) – Last week saw the first major shake down on the ASP World Rankings when 2011 ASP Dream Tour rookie Alejo Muniz (BRA), 20, began his campaign in top form by taking out a massive victory at the ASP PRIME Hang Loose Pro in Brazil over Australian Dion Atkinson (AUS), 24, moving Muniz to No. 28 on the ASP World Rankings prior to the start of his elite debut at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast while Atkinson’s runner-up result launched the Aussie to 40th overall.
Meanwhile, on the Gold Coast, several of the ASP Top 34 were warming up for their ASP World Title campaigns at the ASP 4-Star Breaka Burleigh Pro, which saw defending event champion Taj Burrow (AUS), 32, march to an impressive repeat performance to clinch his second consecutive Breaka Burleigh Pro Title.
The big news this week is that the waiting period for the first event on the men’s and women’s ASP World Tour is set to unfold with the Quiksilver Pro and Roxy Pro, both presented by Land Rover, beginning on February 26 and running until March 9, 2011. Log on to
