Competition Called Off for Billabong ASP World Junior Championships
      






NORTH NARRABEEN, New South Wales/Australia (Friday, January 14, 2011) – A second consecutive lay-day has been called for the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships fueled by Monster Energy will small two-to-three foot surf (.5 metre) on offer and a promising well expected to deliver excellent conditions to North Narrabeen tomorrow.

The Billabong ASP World Junior Championships is the final stop on the inaugural ASP World Junior Tour, with the first event unfolding at the Oakley ASP World Pro Junior in Bali. The series host the top under-21 surfers from around the globe who do battle for the title of ASP World Junior Champion.

“We’ve got some little waves on offer this morning, but we’re waiting for a really promising swell that could deliver as early as tomorrow,” Pritamo Ahrendt, Billabong ASP World Junior Championships Head Judge Said. “With ideal winds and swell in the forecast, we should have optimal conditions to crown this year’s ASP World Junior Champion.”

Competitors still in contention for the 2010 ASP World Junior Title include current rankings leader, Freestone, current ASP World Junior No. 2 Dale Staples (ZAF), 20, who needs to advance into the Semifinals to overtake Freestone, Caio Ibelli (BRA), 16, Mitch Crews (AUS), 20, Nat Young (USA), 19, and Kiron Jabour (HAW), 20.

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 7:30am local time for a possible 8am start.

The Billabong ASP World Junior Championships holds a waiting period from January 8 through 16, 2011 and is webcast LIVE via http://www.billabongpro.com.

As the Quarterfinalists were being decided the other day at the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships fuelled by Monster Energy, competitors and others involved in the event were also focused on the devastating flooding that was impacting the state of Queensland.

Event sponsor Billabong today committed $50,000 to the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal and, through the Rush Surf retail banner, is planning to donate clothing to needy communities.
