Zarautz Preps for ASP Europe Specialty 6.0 Cash for Tricks Grand Finale
CAPBRETON, France (Wednesday, September 1, 2010) – The 6.0 Cash for Tricks Series, an ASP Europe sanctioned Specialty Event, is back for the much anticipated final stop in the famous surf town of Zarautz, and scheduled to run this Saturday, September 4 (Rounds 1 and Semi’s), and Sunday, September 5 (Final).
Wrapping-up a four-stop unique series of spectacular progressive surfing that saw Joan Duru win in Seignosse, Reubyn Ash in Anglet and air phenomenon Gabriel Medina clinch the Lacanau event, the 6.0 Cash for Tricks Zarautz promises another brilliant display of surfing’s future.
“Things have gone well since the kick-off back in July at Seignosse and it seems the concept has become really popular with all the surfers,” said 6.0 Cash for Tricks Event Manager Andy Higgins. “Although we have been obliged to reduce the field to 24 surfers due to time constraints, we are all looking forward to seeing some of the world’s most innovative surfers hit the water this weekend”.
Held within the waiting period of the ASP 6-Star San Miguel Pro Zarautz pres. by Euskaltel where some of the world’s best are battling for valuable ratings points, the 6.0 Cash for Tricks will allow top guns such as Mitch Coleborn (AUS), Cory Lopez (USA) Gony Zubizarreta (ESP), Aritz Aranburu (EUK), and Yadin Nicol (AUS) to show their extraordinary creative abilities in front of a large crowd in Zarautz.
“I like so much this kind of event” said Gabriel Medina, winner of the last Cash For Tricks contest. “In Lacanau I was able to pull-off some air reverses, superman, and Kerupt Flips. It’s a super fun format and I look forward to hopefully winning some more money in Zarautz”.
With a promising surf forecast showing consistent three-to-five foot (1.5 meter) waves for the weekend, Zarautz’s renowned sand banks should deliver some good launching ramps for those looking to get air-borne.
“We are looking at a great finish with consistent waves at one of the Basque Country’s most famous surf locations,” said Julien Hamel, Senior Event Coordinator. “With the level witnessed in Lacanau and an equivalent field of talented progressive surfers confirmed for Zarautz, we are looking at an exciting finish over the weekend with the final scheduled right before the ASP 6-Star event men’s final.”
An alert will be distributed to all media and athletes this Saturday morning to confirm the exact start time however organizers are aiming to kick-off around 5pm.
