San Miguel Pro Zarautz presented by Euskaltel Expected to Start Tomorrow
ZARAUTZ, Basque Country (Wednesday, September 1, 2010) – The San Miguel Pro Zarautz presented by Euskaltel was forced to call another lay day due to continuing small conditions. Event officials are confident of starting the 145,000$US Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) sanctioned event tomorrow morning at 08:00am. The swell forecast looks positive for the following days through to the weekend with a strong ground swell and excellent wave period expected to hit Zarautz overnight.
Smaller 1-ft (0.30m) peaks were breaking at the main event site today. Clear skies, light winds and warm temperatures are making for ideal surfing weather however the current swell size is incontestable.
Officials did not hesitate to call today off and decided not to make another call later in the day because there were absolutely no signs of any swell pushing in throughout the day.
A call will be made tomorrow, Day 3 of the official waiting period, at 07:45am for an 08:00am start of Round One. With 4 days remaining in the official waiting period and the swell forecast at hand, the San Miguel Pro Zarautz presented by Euskaltel is setting up for some intense days of competitive surfing culminating with the crowning of this year’s champion over the weekend.
Surfers competing at the San Miguel Pro Zarautz presented by Euskaltel are looking for valuable ASP World Ranking Points and for the European contingent they are at stop nº 8 of 12 on the ASP European Men’s Series which also has points up for grabs.
