Swell Fails to Manifest for Billabong Pro Tahiti Start Today

Adrian Buchan (AUS), 27, current ASP World No. 12, will take on Dusty Payne (HAW), 21, and Drew Courtney (AUS), 31, in Heat 11 of Round 1 at the Billabong Pro Tahiti.

TEAHUPOO, Taiarapu/Tahiti (Friday, August 27, 2010) – The swell projected to pulse through this morning has failed to manifest, resulting in the fifth consecutive lay day for the Billabong Pro Tahiti.

Event No. 5 of 10 on the 2010 ASP World Tour, the Billabong Pro Tahiti has yet to commence competition, but a more favourable swell forecast for early next week will see the world’s best surfers hit the water.

“It’s unfortunate that today’s swell hasn’t turned up but not all the surprising,” Richie Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “The first real fetch of swell we’ve been expecting is looking to come in Sunday night and hang around through mid next week. That said, we’ll return tomorrow morning at 7am to assess conditions..”

Surfline, official forecasters for the Billabong Pro Tahiti, are calling for a small, long period southwest swell will continue on Friday, which will offer a slight increase in size and power from what we saw earlier in the week.  A larger and medium size south-southswell swell will build in Monday.  The long range forecast continues to look more promising as well.

A full breakdown of ASP World Title Rankings possibilities, including the ASP midyear field reduction, for the Billabong Pro Tahiti are available at ASPWorldTour.com

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 7am to assess conditions for a possible 8am start.

When competition commences, up first will be Damien Hobgood (USA), 31, Kekoa Bacalso (HAW), 25, and Jay Thompson (AUS), 28, in the opening heat of the Billabong Pro Tahiti.
