HUNTINGTON BEACH, California/USA (Tuesday, December 27, 2011) – Surfing is an imperfect science. There are simply too many variables to control and predict. This makes the sport of surfing both one of the most exciting and one of the most frustrating. There is no other playing field in the sporting world with the kind of dynamism that the ocean provides. No two waves alike. Wind, tide, swell, sea life, etc. are just a few of the constantly changing variables that surfers deal with on a daily basis. Sean Collins, lifelong surfer/sailor and founder of Surfline.com, was an instrumental part in the development of the ASP Dream Tour and in developing the best event windows for the world’s best surfers to perform in. Sean passed away yesterday, but the world is better for having had him in it. This…is is his story…
Sean Collins, Surfline’s founder, suffered a heart attack on December 26 while playing tennis in Orange County and passed away in the hospital shortly afterwards. He leaves behind a wife, Daren, and two sons, Tyler and AJ. Sean is also survived by his 81-year-old mother, Gloria, and siblings Whitney Jr., Gloria and Robert.
Sean’s many accomplishments in surf science and forecasting made him one of the most influential surfers of our time…
