Hurley Pro Junior Burleigh Heads Set For Australia Day – World’s Richest Junior First Prize
      





GOLD COAST, Queensland/Australia (Tuesday, January 25, 2011) - The Hurley Pro Junior is back again in 2011, with over 130 of the world’s best professional junior surfers converging on the Gold Coast for the 6-Star, Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) USD$50,000 event.

Held in the iconic barrels of Burleigh Heads on Queensland’s Gold Coast, the Hurley Pro Junior is one of the most prestigious junior surfing events in the world, boasting a world record USD$25,000 first place cheque.

The 2011 Hurley Pro Junior has attracted a stellar field of domestic and international stars including ASP World Junior Champion Jack Freestone (Coolangatta, Qld), Cooper Chapman (Narrabeen, NSW), 2010 defending event champion Dean Bowen (Gerroa, NSW), Conner Coffin (Santa Barbra CA, USA), Evan Geiselman (New Smyrna Beach, FL, USA) and a host of South American, European, South African and Hawaiian competitors.

Hurley Brand Director Australasia Jason Haynes said, “For Hurley to be able to offer the world’s richest first prize in junior surfing and at the same time be fortunate enough to have the Hurley Pro Junior held at the famed break of Burleigh Heads is a privilege…both surfers and spectators will be in for a great event and this shows Hurley’s continued commitment of Junior Surfing in Australia,” said Haynes.

“With the great swell forecast due to tropical cyclone Anthony building off the coast of Northern Queensland, we could be in for a exciting final to this year’s Hurley Pro Junior,” he said.

Hurley Sports Marketing’s Mitchell Ross added, “The calibre of athletes the event attracts gets better each year and seeing the top young surfers from around the world like Conner Coffin and Evan Geiselman take on the likes of Jack Freestone and Cooper Chapman is going to raise the performance standards yet again,” said Ross.

The January 26-30 competition window of the Hurley Pro Junior will see the event kick off amidst the celebrations of Australia’s national day, bolstering the already festival style atmosphere associated with Hurley surfing events.

Event organizers will be tracking the growing tropical cyclone, which is forecasting increased swell for the weekend.  Based on the forecast, there will be a call made this Wednesday (January 26) to determine whether the event will go LIVE via www.hurleyprojnr.com on the final two days of competition (January 29 – January 30).
