Billabong ASP Women’s World Junior Championships is LIVE, Men on Standby
NORTH NARRABEEN, New South Wales (Saturday, January 8, 2011) – The opening day of the 2011 Billabong ASP World Junior Championships is LIVE this morning at North Narrabeen in clean two-to-three foot (1 metre) surf and today’s action is scheduled to see the world’s best female under-21 talent open up the event as they begin to battle for the title of ASP Women’s World Junior Champion.
The Billabong ASP World Junior Championships is the last of two stops on the inaugural ASP World Junior Tour which hosts the world’s best male and female under-21 talent. The first event, the Oakley World Pro Junior saw Australians Jack Freestone (AUS), 18, and Tyler Wright (AUS), 16, emerge victorious over the international field and are the frontrunners entering North Narrabeen.
“We’ve got clean, contestable conditions on offer this morning and are jumping into things straight away on the first day of the waiting period,” Pritamo Ahrendt, Billabong ASP World Junior Championships Head Judge Said. “We’ll begin competition with Women’s Round 1, with the men’s event currently on standby.”
Aside from current ASP Women’s World Junior Tour ratings leader, Wright, other international standouts including defending champion and 2011 ASP Women’s World Tour Rookie Laura Enever (AUS), 19, and current No. 2 on the ASP Women’s World Junior Rankings Alizee Aranaud (FRA), 20, will take to the water in Round 1.
Hitting the water when men’s competition begins will be defending event champion Maxime Huscenot (FRA), 18, current ASP World Junior No. 2 Dale Staples (ZAF), 20, Brazilian talent Ciao Ibelli (BRA), 16, and American standout Nat Young (USA), 19, among other top names.
