Julian Wilson, From Young Gun to Top Gun by ESPN
LOS ANGELES, California (Sunday, December 12, 2010) – Australian talent Julian Wilson (AUS), 22, has been long talked about as the ‘next big thing.’ The young surfer from the Sunshine coast has proven himself in all aspects of the sport from his mind-blowing video sections to decimating some of the surfing’s most finely groomed machines as a wildcard in ASP World Tour events. Entering 2011, Wilson will officially step on to center stage as an ASP World Tour surfer and ESPN thought they’d catch up with the innovative natural footer to discuss his 2010 campaign and his expectations for his rookie year on the ASP Dream Tour. This… is their story.
ESPN.com: So, you just qualified for the 2011 ASP Tour. What kind of celebration is waiting for you back home in Australia?Julian Wilson: I will be celebrating with a good old fashioned BBQ in the back yard at my parents’ house. Get my mates over for a few, cricket in the driveway, and a bit of ping pong.
ESPN.com: What has the general reaction been like with your family and friends?
Julian Wilson: Of course my family and friends are really happy for me. It’s funny because even I was surprised with how things went for me in the last few events, so to end the year qualifying for the World Tour was definitely a surprise for friends and family as well.
