Holding Period Continues for O’Neill Women’s World Cup of Surfing

SUNSET BEACH, Oahu/Hawaii (Sunday, November 28, 2010) – Event organizers at the O’Neill Women’s World Cup of Surfing were forced to call competition off for a third consecutive day with only minimal one foot (.5 metre) waves on offer at Sunset Beach.

With Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 22, wrapping up her fourth consecutive ASP Women’s World Title in Puerto Rico, the focus for the last stop on the 2010 ASP Women’s Dream Tour will shift to the prestigious Vans Triple Crown Title and requalification for a position on the Top 17 for 2011.

“The surf has dropped further as forecasted so we’ll be calling competition off again today,” Richie Porta, O’Neill Women’s World Cup Head Judge said. “The forecast looks like we’ll have a few small days, but will be able to get back to action around Wednesday.”

Surfline, official forecasters for the Vans Triple Crown are expecting small-scale surf to prevail throughout the remainder of the weekend and into early next week, but are monitoring a promising swell to fill in on Wednesday.

The O’Neill Women’s World Cup, which runs in conjunction with the ASP PRIME O’Neill World Cup of Surfing holds a waiting period from November 24 through December 6, 2010 and is webcast LIVE via http://www.triplecrownofsurfing.com/oneillworldcup/
