http://nordsurf-syndikat.de/news/contest/marlon-lipke-f%C3%BCr-die-dream-tour-2009-qualifiziert (http://nordsurf-syndikat.de/news/contest/marlon-lipke-f%C3%BCr-die-dream-tour-2009-qualifiziert)
-

Marlon Lipke: from the ASP World Qualifying Series to the Dream Tour
Interview with the first German surfer ever to surf among the ASP Top 45
(http://www.aspeurope.com/ssp_director/albums/album-91/lg/MARLONJ4.jpg)

CAPBRETON, France (Friday, January 9, 2008)
Marlon Lipke (DEU), 24, became the first German surfer ever to qualify for the ASP World Tour in 2008 after a year of consistent performances that led him to rank No. 16 on the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS). Lipke, who finished the year one spot outside the qualifiers' group, was awarded a wildcard by the ASP surfers rewarding him for all his efforts and results throughout the year. Lipke will start cutting his teeth against the world's best surfers February 28 at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast in Australia, along with a record six other European surfers led by French phenomenon Jeremy Flores (FRA), the biggest contingent ever to hit the tour and possibly confirm Europe's new status as a leading nation of the sport. We caught up with Marlon for an interview on his year and the nerve-testing Hawaiian showdown before he was awarded the wildcard by his peers.
Age: 24
Resides: Algarve, Portugal
Sponsors: Hurley, Oakley, Vans, Nixon, X-Markets and Semente
2008 Highlights: 3rd ASP WQS 6-Star Prime Rip Curl Pro, 5th ASP WQS 5-Star Rip Curl Boardmasters, 5th ASP WQS 6-Star US Open of Surfing, 5th ASP WQS 6-Star Yumeya Billabong Pro...
1. Before anyhting, how does it feel to be invited by the surfers on next year's ASP Top 45?
It feels great, it's just amazing. It's like a dream coming true. It's even better the way it happend because I was just outside the ASP WQS Top 15 so I had already put it behind me. But at the last moment, I got the news from my brother. It will remain one of the best days of my life.
2. The Hawaiian events must have been very hard for you, dropping from No. 9 to 16 in a couple of events? How did you live through this ?
I super stoked going to Hawaii ranked No. 9 but I had already worked out that the rest of the top guys could quickly push me out of the qualifiers' group. Then it started in Haleiwa at the Reef Hawaiian Pro. I didn't do well and all the guys behind me kept getting through and I dropped back to No. 15 at the end of the event, the last spot to qualify. But I knew Phil MacDonald (AUS) who was right behind me, would only need to place 3rd in his heat at the O'Neill World Cup of Surfing to push me definitely out. It was a very hard time, I was very sad after Haleiwa and it took me a few days to come out of this testing time. I had Pat O'Connell, Greg Martin and Jay Thompson (AUS) supporting me a lot and they helped me get ready and amped for Sunset. We had massive waves there and I missed out the cut by very little but I was still happy with my surf in the big conditions. I actually really enjoyed it but I knew the Dream Tour was definitely gone for me so it did affect me.
3. 2008 was your best year ever on the ASP World Qualifying Series. What's the feeling after such a competitive year?
I had a tough time in 2007 with bad results on the international stage eventhough some wins in smaller European events and I finished the year with no sponsor. So I was in this state of mind where you want to give the maximum and just unleash and enjoy the tour. It ended up well for me with 2008 turning into my best year ever, great results and on top of that, so much fun all year long. It couldn't have been any better actually!
4. You are the first German surfer ever to qualify for the ASP World Tour, does it mean a lot ?
I haven't really thought about that yet. I don't even realize I really will be surfing on the ASP World Tour this year. I think it will take a bit more time until I get the bigger picture and start feeling it more realisticly. But it is something unbelievable for sure, for German surfing, Portuguese surfing (Marlon was raised and lives in the South of Portugal) and European surfing with seven of us being on tour. It is just amazing.
5. Any plan to prepare the big start on the Gold Coast ?
This is something else I haven't thought about yet but I believe I will get the usual things going and some serious training with my mate Gony Zubizarreta (ASP WQS Top 50 surfer) and our coach Sylvain Frei. I think I have to work on a whole new quiver and think about changing my approach and surfing a bit. I can't really say what direction I need to go but I have a couple of months to find out so no panic.
6. Putting so much energy into your career and missing out by one spot. What do you learn from this?
I felt very bad the way it ended because it seems like that No. 16 rank is the hardest one to live with. But I kept thinking about it and felt like afterall, that position would give me the opportunity to surf a few ASP World Tour events in 2009 and it helped me being more positive and realize that all the time and investment were significant. But I must say that the first thing that comes to your mind is that your world collapsed and that you better quit and start with something new in life.
7. Now that it's all guaranteed, what goals do you have ?
Without having thought about it too much, I would say my main goal will be to make it to the Top 27 at the end of the year while gaining as much experience as possible. The idea for my rookie year is to get a clearer picture of what the Dream Tour really is, and possibly find the key to establish myself in there.
8. What events are you looking forward to in 2009? Any preferences?
I am looking forward to all events in 2009. One of the major things I learnt in 2008 that you cannot expect anything from this or that specific location; last year I did well at all events I thought I would do bad and vice-versa. So I will just take it as it comes and ready well enough. I must say I still have to train and get experience on the hollow reef breaks of the tour.
9. Anything you want to add? People you want to thank?
I want to thank all the sponsors that helped me out so much and will be there again in 2009 Hurley, Oakley, Vans, Nixon, X-Markets and Semente. I also want to thank Pat, Adrian, Jay, Greg, Qball, Sylvain, Gony and his family. My parents of course and my brother Melvin, Lars, Matt, George, James, the Red Eye bar and the SurfExperience! Thanks all!

FMG SURFER Marlon Lipke signs with Gorilla
2009 ASP World Tour rookie Marlon Lipke from Germany signed a contract with SHI (Surf Hardwear International) beginning of the year, which will see him endorse Gorilla and FCS products on his first year on the Dream Tour. Marlon is the first ever German to qualify for the elite top 45 surfers in the world and is very excited about his upcoming year:
“I can’t wait to get going and it is good to know that I have the guys from Gorilla / FCS supporting me. They produce great and durable products, which is extremely important if you are on the road a lot. I’m really stoked to be the one European representing the brand on the ASP World Tour. I will also have the opportunity to design my own signature pad, which is great. So watch out for that one!”
Richie Lovett, SHI Brand Ambassador comments: “We are really excited to have Marlon joining our stable of Gorilla and FCS team riders. Marlon produced some amazing surfing in 2008 and his achievements to date reflect his talent, dedication and desire to succeed. It’s those attributes that make him a perfect fit for our brands. We are looking forward to working closely with Marlon to ensure he has the best equipment needed to perform at the highest level. Now that he has qualified for the World Tour I’m sure he will firmly make his mark on professional surfing and proudly represent the European community.”
Marlon’s signature pad is set to be released in late 2009.

2009 ASP Top 45 Set, Irons Brothers’ Withdrawals Finalize Tour Surfers
(http://64.78.18.131/live/Regional/slater9002tahiti08kirstin_lt.jpg)
Pictured: Nine-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA), 36, enters the 2009 ASP World Tour as the man to beat, with the opportunity to attain an unprecedented 10th ASP World Title.
COOLANGATTA, Australia (Thursday, January 22, 2009) – The 2009 ASP World Tour is set to commence in just over a month, and the ASP Top 45 is looking set and shaping up to be one of the most explosive the world has ever seen.
Nine-times ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA), 36, will be back to hunt down ASP World Title No. 10, but standing in his way will be the best of the best.
Bede Durbidge (AUS), 25, and fellow top seeds Taj Burrow (AUS), 30, Joel Parkinson (AUS), 27, and C.J. Hobgood (USA), 29, will lead the rest of the ASP Top 45 in their respective bids to put a stop to the Slater juggernaut.
The official withdrawals of the Irons brothers and the acceptance of replacement surfers are in place, and the 2009 ASP Top 45 are finally locked in.
Roy Powers (HAW), 27, will be replacing Bruce Irons (HAW), 29, who finished No. 20 on last season’s ASP World Tour but will be retiring from full-time competition in 2009. Despite the withdrawal from the Dream Tour, Irons will pursue wildcard entries into select events.
Michael Campbell (AUS), 34, former ASP World No. 2, will replace former three-time ASP World Champion Andy Irons (HAW), 30, on the 2009 ASP World Tour. Irons the elder will be taking 2009 to recuperate and has been awarded the ASP Wildcard for the 2010 ASP World Tour.
“Andy Irons requested and was granted an ASP Tour wildcard for 2010,” Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew, ASP President, said. “Andy cited personal reasons for not participating in the full tour in 2009, however he may participate in certain pet events as an event wildcard. All stakeholders, being the surfers, the Events Council and ASP Management, were supportive of Andy's request, and the ASP Board of Directors ratified this arrangement officially.”
“Andy will be sorely missed in 2009 and we look forward to him contending again from 2010,” Bartholomew said. “Each year, three tour wildcards are issued, they are for injury, they are sometimes granted to next in line WQS and they are also granted to former ASP World Champions or someone held in high esteem.”
This year’s ASP Top 45 will see the addition of eight new faces in rookies Nathaniel Curran (USA), 24, Michel Bourez (PYF), 23, Nic Muscroft (AUS), 26, Kekoa Bacalso (HAW), 23, Tim Boal (FRA), 25, Dustin Barca (HAW), 26, Drew Courtney (AUS), 29, and Marlon Lipke (DEU), 24. Over 10 separate surfing nations will be represented in 2009, making this season’s ASP World Tour one of the most diverse on record
Replacements for the 2009 ASP World Tour will be Jay Thompson (AUS), 25, Patrick Gudauskas (USA), 23, Ben Bourgeois (USA), 28, and Yadin Nicol (AUS), 23, respectively.
Comprehensive athlete profiles for the ASP Top 45 are now available via www.aspworldtour.com

Heat 6: C.J. Hobgood (USA), Taylor Knox (USA), Marlon Lipke (DEU)

Euro Blog: First German Ever on Dream Tour Marlon Lipke to Start Campaign Tomorrow
COOLANGATTA, Australia (Friday, February 27, 2009) – Marlon Lipke (DEU), 24, the first German surfer ever to become a member of the ASP World Tour, will paddle out tomorrow for his first heat against some of the world’s best surfers for the first round of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast at Snapper Rocks. Lipke, who will be surfing on his backhand on the world famous righthanders of Coolangatta, will meet former ASP World Champion CJ Hobgood (USA) and Dream Tour veteran powersurfer Taylor Knox (USA). The German man, who has made the trip to Australia with his younger brother Melvin to train and get ready for his grand start, sent us his thoughts as a rookie prepared to enter the arena of elite professional surfing. Check it out...
"Snapper Rocks... I have been coming here for almost ten years now so I know the place and the wave quite well but I think I've only managed to catch ten waves with all this crowd in the water... Hahaha... No seriously, I know the wave but probably not enough to know which set will be better and which waves will offer better scoring potential on a difficult day. However, I think it is a good wave for goofyfooters and I had some sick rides a week ago and it definitely gave me confidence.
Can't wait to get things started, being part of this big European group is really great, they are all amazing surfers and great people so I am looking forward to spending my time on tour with the rest of the crew.
I don't really know what to expect from the tour this year and that's why I am not feeling 100% confident but I know after a few events I will have some good experience and will find my cruising speed. I am still the same mellow guy that was on the WQS last year and there’s no big change on my personal approach so I am excited to get on with some new experiences. Being a newcomer amongst all the best surfers of the planet makes me happy and I fell like I have nothing to lose. I will take my time to find out my strenghts on tour and possibly establish myself. Compared to what I have been through on the WQS, I feel there's a lot less pressure now and everything is bonus.
Speaking about my training for the start of the tour, I don't have the best training facilities where I live but I trained a lot at the gym with my brother Melvin and I am definitely physically fit. Mentally, I am just going to use the same tactics as I did last year on the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS), take as it goes, go with the flow and have as much fun as possible to enjoy that unique opportunity. Looking at my equipment, I spent a lot of time working on the boards for the different venues of the tour and I believe my Shaper Nick from Semente Surfboards has come up with some really good stuff for me.
Since Hawaii and the nerve testing finish there, I travelled a bit around Europe and in Portugal where I live. I went to Munich in Germany to surf the famous river wave there which was super fun despite the ice floating around and the freezing weather. Then I went to France to get some waves and start training and we got some good swells but it was very cold as well. In January and at the beginning of February, I drove to Lisbon and Ericeira as much as possible to surf different waves and be there for every swell. I had really good waves for the first week but then the weather went crazy and I had to stay at home in the South of Portugal. But I had a good winter.
With all the travel coming up, I will try and have some friends and family with me as much as possible. My brother and two friends have made the trip to Australia, we have been having a great time with a stopover in Frankfurt in Germany for my birthday on the way and my manager Quirin Rohleder is here as well. It's great to have them around. But I can’t wait to get back to some events with my other friends who are still on the WQS like Gony (Zubizarreta), Hodei (Collazo), Justin (Mujica), Jonathan (Gonzalez) and Pablo (Gutierrez)."
For more on Marlon Lipke, check out his profile at www.aspworldtour.com

---------------------
Taj Burrow (AUS), 30, current ASP World No. 7, netted the day’s highest heat total of a 15.33 out of a possible 20, comboing his opponent Marlon Lipke (DEU), 25, with razor-sharp backhand tube sense en route to his Round 2 heat win.
“I actually thought Marlon (Lipke) started out with a really good one and that made me pretty nervous,” Burrow said. “I guess he wasn’t able to get deep enough and didn’t really get the score though. After that, I just had to select the ones that let me get in the tube long enough and was able to grab a couple of 7’s so it turned out well for me.”
--------------
-
ja, das ist schon mal was... 8)
Aber jetzt kann er sich steigern...
Bin mal gespannt, was Aritz mit Kelly macht...
-
Nach inoffiziellen Heat-Draw könnte Marlons erster Heat in Brasilien folgendermassen aussehen:
Heat 5: Mick Fanning, Dean Morrison, Marlon Lipke
mal wieder nicht gerade die einfachste Aufgabe...
-
ham die dann wieder aufs alter format umgestellt??
-

---------------------
FMG surfer Marlon Lipke will be on German national television on June 24th 2009. Lipke, Germany’s sole representative on the ASP World Tour, the elite surfing circuit, which features the best 45 surfers in the world, will appear in the “Morgenmagazin”, the morning magazine of the ARD, the biggest German national TV channel (www.daserste.de/moma/ <http://www.daserste.de/moma/> ).
Lipke will be a studio guest; sharing the experiences he made during the first events on tour in 2009, in particular the Billabong Pro Teahupoo in Tahiti, one of the most spectacular surfing events on the ASP calendar. A TV team followed Marlon around the tropical island in May, capturing the life on tour of Germany’s first true professional surfer.
If you receive German TV and you are up for an early one on Wednesday, June 24th, switch on to “Das Erste”. The show airs from 5.30 AM to 9 AM.
Marlon is sponsored by Hurley, X-Markets Deutsche Bank, Vans, Oakley, Nixon, Gorilla/FCS, Planet Sports, Semente Surfboards and net-lawyer.de

-
Und ? Was sagt er so der Marlon ?
-
??? Will ich auch. Komme ja aus Hamburg...
-
Übrigens, Heimvorteil für Marlon und Tiago, Rip Curl Search-Event findet dieses Jahr in Peniche statt:

-
-
Übrigens, neuer Heat-Draw für Brasil:
Heat 4: Kelly Slater, Timmy Reyes, Marlon Lipke
-
oh man vielleicht sollte kelly doch lieber AL die Bretter shapen lassen
-
Marlon wieder nur ein 33. Aus nach der 2. Runde >:(
Runde 1:
Red 2 9.70 Kelly Slater USA
White 1 10.17 Tim Reyes USA
Yellow 3 8.07 Marlon Lipke DEU
Runde 2:
Red 1 15.00 Damien Hobgood USA
Yellow 2 10.40 Marlon Lipke DEU
-
Die Waiting-Period für JBay ist gestartet.
Marlons Heat-Draw:
Heat 5: Bede Durbidge (AUS), Dean Morrison (AUS), Marlon Lipke (DEU)
2x Regular-Foot gegen 1x Goofy-Foot
Heat 1: Tim Boal vs Mikael Picon
Heat 2: Jay Thompson vs Nathaniel Curran
Heat 3: Josh Kerr vs Nic Muscroft
Heat 4: Kai Otton vs Phillip MacDonald
Heat 5: Dean Morrison vs Marlon Lipke
Heat 6: Chris Ward vs Alternate 1
Heat 7: Dustin Barca vs Alternate 2
Heat 8: Kekoa Bacalso vs Wildcard 3
Heat 9: Timmy Reyes vs Wildcard 2
Heat 10: Dayyan Neve vs Wildcard 1
Heat 11: Heitor Alves vs Greg Emslie
Heat 12: Chris Davidson vs David Weare
Heat 13: Aritz Aranburu vs Michel Bourez
Heat 14: Jihad Khodr vs Roy Powers
Heat 15: Tiago Pires vs Ben Dunn
Heat 16: Dane Reynolds vs Drew Courtney
-
Red 1 10.83 Dean Morrison AUS
Blue 2 8.67 Marlon Lipke DEU
Neues Contest-Format, deswegen keine 2. Chance...erneut ein 33.
-

Altes Format:
Heat 6: Adriano de Souza, Dane Reynolds, Marlon Lipke
Neues Format:
Heat 6: Dane Reynolds vs Marlon Lipke

http://quiksilverlive.com/profrance09/ (http://quiksilverlive.com/profrance09/)
-
na ich habe messe
hossegor sollt emarlon liegen, vielleicht geht endlich mal was
-
Heat 5: Adriano de Souza (BRA), Michel Bourez (PYF), Marlon Lipke (DEU)
Also schon so gegen 10 Uhr reinschalten!!
http://quiksilverlive.com/profrance09/live,high.en.html (http://quiksilverlive.com/profrance09/live,high.en.html)
-
Noch ca 10 Minuten...
-
Heat3: Bede Durbridge, Marlon Lipke
so gegen 17:15/17:30
-
So das wars, mal wieder ein 33. Marlon wirkte nach dem Heat sehr frustriert.
1 15.33 Bede Durbidge AUS
2 10.17 Marlon Lipke DEU
Wers verpasst hat hier die Highlights von Rd1:

-
Heat # 5
Red Michel Bourez PYF
White Marlon Lipke DEU
-
Marlon im Wasser und er führt :o
-
...und gewinnt !
Red 2 10.77 Michel Bourez PYF
Yellow 1 14.66 Marlon Lipke DEU
-
-
Marlon jetzt auch auf Twitter:
http://twitter.com/MarlonLipke (http://twitter.com/MarlonLipke)
