OCEAN BEACH, California/USA (Monday, November 7, 2011) – The Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco is back on this morning in clean two-to-four foot (1 metre) conditions at Ocean Beach and will begin competition with men’s Round 5 and possibly crown a champion by day’s end.
Stop No. 10 of 11 on the men’s ASP World Title Race, the Rip Curl Pro Search saw Kelly Slater (USA), 39, officially secure his 11th ASP World Title yesterday when he topped young Brazilians Gabriel Medina (BRA), 17, and Miguel Pupo (BRA), 19, to advance directly through to the Quarterfinals while several surfers looking to secure a result prior to the ASP Top 34 end of year rotation have put in some stellar performances.
“We’ve got clean offshore conditions this morning and expect the surf to improve as the tide drops this morning,” Richie Porta, ASP International Head Judge said. “We’ll pick back up with Round 5 today and could possibly crown the Rip Curl Pro champion by day’s end.”
Up first this morning will be veteran campaigner Taylor Knox (USA), 40, against ASP World Tour rookie Miguel Pupo (BRA), 19, in the opening heat of Round 5.
Patrick Gudauskas (USA), 26, has withdrawn from the Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco due to injury. Gudauskas’ heat against Brett Simpson (USA), 26, will not be run and Simpson will advance directly to the Quarterfinals.
The Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco is Stop No. 10 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title Series and holds a waiting period from November 1-12. The 2011 Pro Search will be broadcast live on Fuel TV, Livestream.com (http://www.livestream.com) and live.ripcurl.com (http://www.live.ripcurl.com )
