SAN FRANCISCO, California/USA (Sunday, November 6, 2011) – After a week that will not soon be forgotten by the surfing world, Kelly Slater (USA), 39, officially clinched the 2011 ASP World Title today, besting South American young guns Gabriel Medina (BRA), 17, and Miguel Pupo (BRA), 19, in Round 4 of the Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco. Following a second impromptu ceremony spawned by Slater’s legions of fans at Ocean Beach, ASP CEO Brodie Carr and Tour Manager Renato Hickel find a quiet moment to apologize to Kelly for the week’s drama, congratulate him on his well-deserved win and officially award him the 2011 ASP World Title Trophy.
