TEAHUPO’O, Taiarapu/French Polynesia (Thursday, August 18, 2011) – The Billabong Pro Tahiti presented by Air Tahiti Nui will commence this morning at 7:30am, with the world’s best surfers beginning their South Pacific campaigns in clean four-to-six foot (2 metre) waves at Teahupo’o.
“We have clean consistent surf on offer this morning in the four-foot (1.5 metre) range with some sets going as big as six-foot (2 metre),” Pritamo Ahrendt, ASP International Head Judge, said. “We’ll be commencing competition at 7:30am this morning, looking to complete Round 1. We’ve put Round 2 on standby, but will be monitoring conditions closely before making a call on that. Good luck to all our competitors today.”
Up first this morning will be Adrian Buchan (AUS), 28, Chris Davidson (AUS), 34, and Cory Lopez (USA), 34, in Heat 1 of Round 1.

Surfline, official forecasters for the Billabong Pro Tahiti, are calling for lots of swell to line up for the first week+ of the contest waiting period. Medium size SW shifting SSW swell this weekend will be followed by slightly larger S swell for early next week, along with favorable conditions. We remain on track for a major swell for the 25th-26th, with potential for more very strong swell the weekend of the 27th-28th.
