Nach den hervorragenden Platzierungen bei den US Open und in Nequay, hatte sich Marlon schon auf Platz 9 der WQS-Rankings vorgearbeitet.

In Lacanau liefs allerdings nicht so gut, schon in seinem 1. Heat ist er rausgeflogen und liegt jetzt auf Rang 14 im Gesamt-Classement.

Heute gehts gleich weiter mit dem Ripcurl Pro in Seignosse. Ein gutes Ergebnis hier wäre wünschenswert, sonst gehts ganz schnell weiter runter im Ranking

Marlon packt ein wenig die Ellenbogen aus. Hab mich schon gewundert warum Ben Dunn so einen niedrigen Score hat.

The European contingent was not left behind on this classic surfing day. Marlon Lipke (DEU) and Tim Boal (FRA), both rated No. 14 on the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) ratings, advanced today with good performances.

Lipke, who placed equal 5th in the Rip Curl Boardmasters earlier this month, unleashed in Heat 3 defeating ASP World Tour surfer Ben Dunn (AUS) and besting fellow European and ASP Top 45 rookie Tiago Pires (PRT).

"I am stoked to be able to surf these conditions," Lipke said. "I got a good start in the heat and I was just ready to go for the better waves. Ben (Dunn) and Tiago (Pires) are already on the ASP World Tour and I had nothing to lose so I just used every option to make this one."

Lipke, who used smart tactics to trap Dunn and push him to comit an interference on an excellent wave, showed great determination to finish ahead of heat favorites in a tricky heat.

"I was not going to let anything go and I paddled out to win and give my best," Lipke said. "Everyone is hungry for points and you have to stay focused and hold fermly to your goal. I am stoked I made it with Tiago (Pires). The guys on the World Tour are an example and things have been changing fast on the European stage."

Lipke, who stands as a potential ASP Top 45 qualifier for 2009, has had a good summer thus far with a 9th in the US Open of Surfing, a 5th in Japan and a 5th in Newquay, will be looking to get back on track after his Round 1 elimination in Lacanau.

Marlon ist ein Tier!! Heat in der letzten Sekunde noch rumgerissen und auf Platz 2 gelandet, somit das Ticket in Runde 4 klar gemacht!

Er hatte etwas Probleme in den Heat reinzukommen und schaffte erst 4 Minuten vor Schluss nen guten Score, war damit kurzfristig auf Platz 2 , Brent Dorrington kontert sofort und verdrängt Marlon wieder auf Platz 3, bin dann zur Arbeit gefahren und dachte schade das wars...Jetzt schau ich grad die Wertung an. In der letzten Sekunde noch 'ne gute Welle erwischt 6.17 und damit Platz 2!!

MOVES TO 7TH ON THE WQS RATING


German surfer Marlon Lipke is yet another step closer to fulfilling his dream of qualifying for the elite ASP World Tour after finishing 3rd at one of the most important events on this year’s World Qualifying Series (WQS) calendar, the Rip Curl Pro in Hossegor / Seignosse. The Rip Curl Pro is one of eight 6* Prime events on the WQS calendar, and a good result here is what all WQS surfers long for.
 
“Getting so far in such an important event is amazing and the 2250 points are good, but I really thought I could make it into the final. Jihad Khodr started off well in my semi final heat and I needed a big score. As the tide was going out, I decided to surf the outside. Unfortunately the set I needed never came. But I am stoked for Jihad and of course for Davo (Chris Davidson, who went on to win the Rip Curl Pro). They are both amazing surfers and great sportsmen.
 
I’m now sitting in 7th on the WQS ratings with 10300 points and things do look promising, but there’s still a lot of work to be done with so many important 6* events left. I guess it is time for a final soon and maybe even a win!
 
It has been a crazy year for Europeans with so many of us reaching finals at most main events. Miky (Picon), Tiago (Pires), Aritz (Aranburu) and Jeremy (Flores) have been a great motivation for us all and it seems like things are paying off."
 
Next up is the Billabong Pro Ericeira, a WQS 6* at Ribeira d’Ilhas in Portugal next week.
