Off to an early start to the new year commencing January 5 – 9 the 1-Star ASP World Tour Championship Moves presented by CHIKO Open launches Australasia’s season at Bells Beach, Victoria followed almost immediately by the 4-Star Hainan Classic on Hainan Island, China which will run from January 11 – 14 as a part of the Hainan Riyue Bay International Surfing Festival presented by Quiksilver.

“We welcome these two new additions to the ASP Australasian Calendar,” said ASP Australasia General Manager Dane Jordan. “As 1 and 4 Star events they provide an ideal grooming for surfers keen to climb the One World Rankings on the ASP World Tour and these inclusions add balance to ASP surfing in Australasia.”

The Championship Moves presented by CHIKO Open can utilise both the world famous Bells Beach and nearby Jan Juc and while Bells is famous as an Autumn, Winter and Spring location, history shows Summer and particularly January often enjoy great swells.

This event runs in conjunction with the Championship Moves Presented by CHIKO Pro Junior Men’s and Women’s and is certain to attract a strong field of ASP open and pro-junior surfers.

The Hainan Classic, as part of the Hainan Riyue Bay International Surfing Festival presented by Quiksilver in China will be a landmark, particularly significant as it will be the first ever combined ASP and International Surfing Association (ISA) event.

ISA president Fernando Aguerre is thrilled about this unique event.

“Two great organisations teaming together for the sport of surfing in an incredible location like China is extremely exciting – This will also be the first time high level men’s surfing showcases in China and we will combine our resources to ensure an amazing and historic event.”

The Hainan Riyue Bay International Surfing Festival presented by Quiksilver comes on the back of the recent successfully run ASP SWATCH GIRLS PRO China and a quality international field are sure to chase the $US95,000 prize pool at this notable 4-Star event.

It sets the scene for a fast and dynamic start to what will be a thrilling four months of non-stop ASP surfing in the Australasia.
